The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Pudukottai district unit and the cadre are facing a unique situation, with the party candidates of four Lok Sabha constituencies visiting the district for campaigning.
The AIADMK candidates have started visiting the Assembly segments in Pudukkottai district that fall under their respective Lok Sabha constituencies to get themselves introduced and the local leaders and party men had been forced to run from one Assembly segment to the other every day to receive the party candidates.
The Pudukottai Lok Sabha constituency, which existed since the first ever general elections in Independent India in 1952, was abolished by the Delimitation Commission of India in the exercise prior to 2009 general elections. The six Assembly segments in Pudukottai revenue district had been apportioned to four Lok Sabha constituencies in as many neighbouring districts.
While Pudukottai and Gandarvakottai Assembly segments are part of the Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency, Alangudi, and Tirumayam segments come under Sivagangai Lok Sabha constituency, Viralimalai segment is part of Karur constituency, and Aranthangi segment part of Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
The AIADMK candidates have commenced the initial work of meeting the local leaders and cadres in each and every Assembly segment of their Lok Sabha constituency. P. Kumar, MP, who has been re-nominated for Tiruchi constituency, visited the local leaders a few days ago. P. R. Senthilnathan, the candidate for Sivaganangai constituency held a meeting with the office bearers of the Alangudi and Tirumayam segments on Sunday at the party headquarters in Pudukkottai town.
C. Vijaya Baskar, Health Minister and district secretary of the AIADMK, N. Subramanian, Adidravida Welfare Minister, MLAs K. P. Krishnan (Tirumayam) and P. K. Vairamuthu (Tirumayam), were present.
M. Thambidurai and Anwar Raza repeating Anwar Raza, party candidates for Karur and Ramanathapuram constituencies respectively are expected to address party workers meetings in the district shortly.
