About 150 members of Pudhiya Tamizhagam were arrested in the district on Thursday for staging demonstrations at four places to highlight the plight of SC/ST students over denial of fee waiver by higher educational institutions in the State despite the government releasing the fund for the purpose.

Through the agitations at Thuraiyur, Manapparai, Samayapuram Toll Gate, and Chathiram Bus Stand, the demonstrators sought cancellation of licence of those institutions that had failed to pay heed to the government circular to desist from collecting fee from SC/ST students.

All the arrested were let off later.
