Environmental scientist tells students

‘Young people must be forerunners in protecting the environment,' said V.Ramanathan, Environmental Scientist, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Addressing students at the Anna Science Centre Planetarium, he said students should preserve the environment by planting saplings.

Around 80 students from six schools attended the lecture on ‘Protect our environment' organised on account the World Environment Day on June 5. He mentioned that Tamil Nadu had the highest number of windmills in India and increased power generation. Citing the example of dyeing factories in Tirupur adopting reverse osmosis, he mentioned pollution control methods implemented by various industries. He maintained that stricter regulations must be enforced on the use of plastics. The programme was part of the ‘Meet your Scientist' series, a monthly initiative by the Science Centre to provide an opportunity for school students to interact with experts from various fields.
