Members of the district wing of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Headmasters Association staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate here on Thursday in support of their three-point charter of demands.
They raised slogans and urged the education department to redress their long-pending grievances. Their demands include promotion for headmasters of higher secondary school to the next higher grade of District Education Officer.
Referring to the anomalies in the promotional opportunities, G.Ganapathy, district president of the association, said that although the State government had constituted promotional anomalies rectification committee, its recommendations were yet to be released and implemented.
S. Ramesh, district secretary, said that the State government should sanction funds for meeting the expenditure towards maintenance of schools. He said that a special officer should be appointed for implementing the welfare schemes for students. “The headmaster is overburdened with the implementation of these schemes resulting in less attention to academic issues particularly teaching-learning methodology.”
