The State Government is according priority for effective implementation of various welfare schemes, said Transport Minister K.N.Nehru on Sunday.

Distributing Government's free colour television sets to 813 families in the Sevanthialingapuram panchayat in Musiri Taluk in Tiruchi district, the Minister explained about the various welfare schemes including Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments, Kalaignar Housing Scheme to provide 21 lakh concrete houses to those living in huts and the rice being supplied at one rupee per kg through the public distribution system.

The Minister, who inaugurated new bus routes from Chathiram bus stand in Tiruchi to Karattampatti and to Valavanur via Kottaimedu, said that even though the Government transport corporations were incurring losses, the Government was operating buses in all the urban and rural areas for the benefit of the people.

Forest Minister N.Selvaraj, who presided over the function, said that the Kalaignar Housing Scheme was welcomed by all sections of the society and pointed out that the Government was showing keen interest in providing basic amenities like protected drinking water, street lights and road facilities in all the places in the State.
