Post office savings scheme for girls

“Sukanya Samriddhi Account” having special focus on girl children up to 10 years and specially designed for girl’s higher education or marriage needs, can be opened in a girl child’s name by her parents/guardian in any head post office /Sub Post Offices of Tiruchi Postal region. The minimum deposit for opening an account is Rs 1,000 and further deposits in the multiples of Rs 100 can be made. Maximum deposit is Rs 1.50 lakh in a financial year. Deposit has to be made up to completion of 14 years from the date of opening. Rate of interest is 9.1 per cent for the financial year 2014-15 and this is the highest rate of interest offered by Central Government on small savings scheme. Deposits can be made any number of times in the month/year. This account will mature on completion of 21 years from the date of opening of the account.
