Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation has organised an exhibition - Krishna Darshan - in view of Krishna Jayanthi that falls on August 28 at its Poompuhar showroom on Gandhiji road.
Colourful idols of lord Krishna, Panchaloka idols, Thanjavur paintings of Krishna, Rajasthan paintings, and black metal idols are on display. Famous paintings include ‘Vennaithazhi Krishna’, ‘Radha Rukmini Krishna’, ‘Kalinga Narthanam’, ‘Govardhanagiri Krishna’, ‘Brindavan Krishna’, ‘Crawling Krishna’, ‘Krishna with cows’, ‘Santhana Krishna’, and ‘Gopika Krishna’.
The attraction is one feet high dasavatharam in panchaloka, which costs Rs. 1.05 lakh. “Items worth Rs. 10 lakh are on display and a sales target of Rs. 3 lakh has been fixed,” said P. Balakrishnan, manager of Poompuhar. The exhibition that started on Tuesday would go on till August 31. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Kumbakonam
The corporation has also organised an exhibition of all types of handicrafts at Haritha Mahal near Mahamaham tank in Kumbakonam. R. Ramanathan, former MLA, declared the exhibition open. It would go on till August 23.
Thanjavur art plates, Thanjavur paintings, Thanjavur dolls, Panchaloka idols, puja articles, Spatika articles, handloom saris, and silver-coated articles are on display. Ten per cent discount is given. Article worth Rs. 25 lakh are on display and the sales target is Rs 7.50 lakh.
