Police in Tiruchi and across the Central Zone have braced themselves for the Statewide bandh called by farmers’ association on Saturday to express their protest against construction of a dam by Karnataka across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu.

Security schemes have been drafted by the police as a precautionary measure to maintain order on the bandh day when several shops and business establishments were expected to remain closed to express solidarity with farmers.

Police personnel would be deployed at vital installations, crowded areas, government offices, bus stands, and depots besides other important places to maintain vigil and ensure order.

Mobile patrols had been provided to every police station in Tiruchi district with Striking Forces made available to every Station House Officer and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, police sources said.

Personnel of the Tamil Nadu Special Police would be utilised to augment the manpower strength in Tiruchi district in view of the bandh.
