Police instructed to intensify checks ahead of by-election

Observer, Collector inspects counting centres and strong room

The Police Observer for the Tiruchi West constituency S.Parasivamurthy has instructed police and other monitoring teams to intensify checks ahead of the by-election in the constituency on October 13.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with police and zonal officers here on Wednesday, Mr.Parasivamurthy told the officers to be remain vigilant round-the-clock as there were possibilities for irregularities as the by-election approaches. All vehicles should be subject to thorough checks at the checkposts around the constituency. Teams should respond quickly to complaints and information received at the control room, he said.

He urged the officials to act impartially and initiate stern action against any illegal activity, he said. Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, City Police Commissioner E.Ma.Masanamuthu, District Revenue Officer P.Manickam and other officials attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the General Observer for the constituency R.K.Pathak inspected the counting centre for the constituency on the Saranathan Engineering College campus. Accompanied by the Collector, he checked the arrangements being made for the counting at the centre and the strong room for storage of the electronic voting machines after the polling.
