The city police has mobilised its full strength for bandobust duty for the ensuing ‘Deepavali’ festival, Commissioner of Police Karuna Sagar said on Tuesday.
Police personnel have already been deployed in the busy commercial areas within the city limits with a watch tower erected on the NSB Road to prevent crimes, he told the media in the city.
Personnel from special units such as the City Crime Branch, City Crime Records Bureau and Anti-Vice Squad have also been utilised for bandobust duty, the Commissioner said adding that efforts were on to ensure zero crime.
Bursting of crackers from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. was not allowed and action as per law would be initiated against those violating it, he said.
Replying to a query on the shortage of strength in the crime wing, the Commissioner said full strength had now been provided to the five Crime police stations. A proposal has been sent to the State Police Headquarters seeking sanction of strength for the crime wing in the remaining seven police stations falling under the city limit.
Extra police booths would soon be set up in K.K. Nagar in Woraiyur following incidents of crimes in these areas. Additional personnel would be drawn from the Armed Reserve of the city police for prevention of crimes.
The Commissioner said the police could not get any clue till now on the theft of bronze and brass icons from the Government Museum in the city recently. The state-of-the-art Traffic Regulatory Management System involving usage of sophisticated surveillance cameras for the city to check traffic violations would be ready by the end of this month.
The police had created a record by collecting Rs. 2.63 lakh as fine amount from violators on a single day on October 12 under various heads of the Motor Vehicle Act.
He said efforts were being taken to modernise the city’s traffic infrastructure adding that 500 new barricades in uniform size and same colour would be installed in various places within the city shortly. Five hundred more barricades would be acquired shortly and distributed to the Law and Order and Crime Wings.
The city police conducted a storming operation on Monday night during which all lodges were checked. Two vehicles found carrying crackers without any licence were seized.
