There is more to the murder than meets the eye, investigators believe

A day after the murder of K.N. Ramajeyam, neither DMK workers nor the police had a clear idea about the motive or the identity of the assailants. The city police on Friday constituted two more special teams in addition to the three formed on Thursday, immediately after the body was found in bushes near Thiruvalarcholai along Kallanai Road.

The case is being investigated from all angles, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav told The Hindu. Why the assailants abducted and immobilised Ramajeyam by gagging his mouth and tying up his hands and legs before committing the murder and why the act was not committed at the spot where they picked him up were being probed.

There is more to the murder than meets the eye, investigators believe. Ramajayam, according to DMK sources, had been asked to maintain vigil by well wishers.

According to the medical team that conducted the post-mortem, there was bleeding in the brain owing to a head injury caused by iron rods. There were abrasions on lips and all over the body, A. Karthikeyan, Dean, K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, said.

The police have invited the people to share information. The identity of the callers will be kept confidential, the Commissioner of Police said.

Unlike Thursday, when city buses were not operated on arterial routes and a few schools declared holiday, the city returned to normality on Friday. Police presence was substantial throughout the city. Thousands of DMK workers dispersed peacefully after the funeral.
