K.Arulmozhi, Member Secretary, State Planning Commission, inspected various development works in the district on Wednesday.
Accompanied by Collector M. Chandrasekaran, Mr. Arulmozhi saw the construction of additional building at inspection bungalow at a cost of Rs.70 lakh near the old circuit house in the town.
He visited the site of construction of the office building for the Deputy Superintendent of Police which is coming up at Rs. 47.60 lakh. Later, he inspected the underground drainage works at Chettikulam, Panagal Road and Thirumanjanaveedhi.
He instructed officials to complete laying of pipelines on Panagal road quickly. He also visited the government girls' hostel at Nannilam that provides accommodation to 11 students belonging to backward class and 44 belonging to SC/ST.
He directed the warden to inculcate the habit of reading English newspapers and referring to dictionary into students. The students should improve their general knowledge, he said.
He later saw construction of concrete houses under Kalaignar's housing scheme at Maharajapuram village in Nannilam taluk. He gave away cash assistance to a beneficiary. He visited the upgraded primary health centre at Thiruveezhimizhalai village. Subsequently, he visited a cattle farm at Korkai village .
Swaminathan, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Sahaya Mary Reeta, Deputy Director of Health, Bhaskaran, Executive Engineer, PWD (buildings), Sasikala, Adhidravida Welfare Officer, Thyagarajan, Senior Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and Palaniappan, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, accompanied the secretary .
