The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has drafted an action plan for executing the renovation of Srirangam Sri Renganathaswamy Temple and conducting the samprokshanam within a specific time frame.

P.Dhanapal, Commissioner of HR and CE, who reviewed the progress of the renovation work at the temple, said that an action plan has been drafted for executing the work. The temple has 24 gopurams across various entrances and shrines besides the famous Rajagopuram. “We have divided the work into three major portions: erecting scaffoldings, repair and maintenance of idols in accordance with the agama sastra, and painting of idols,” he said. The stapathis have been advised to adhere to the schedule so that the work could be executed without any delay.

The renovation would also include beautification of vacant spaces on the gopuram, wherever possible. Specially designed idols would be installed at these spaces.

Mr.Dhanapal said rainwater harvesting was also being given a thrust. An old well which was in disuse near the kottaram would be revived through a rainwater harvesting structure being set up in the area. The a nnadhanam hall currently under construction at the temple has come in handy for the purpose. The rainwater collected on the top of the hall would be let into the well that has been in disuse over the past few decades.

Mr.Dhanapal said that renovation works would not hinder the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival, and the renovation of ‘gopurams’ would be completed well ahead of the festival.
