A special exhibition-cum-sale of ‘kolu’ dolls organised ahead of the navarathri festival by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation at its Poompuhar Showroom opened in the city on Friday.
Collector K.Rajamani inaugurated the exhibition which features ‘kolu’ dolls in the price range of ₹50 to ₹25,000.
According to officials at the 45-year-old showroom, the exhibition features an array of dolls including ‘kolu’ sets, Kondapalli dolls, ‘marapachi’ dolls and dolls made of papier mache, mud, marble and precious stones. Some of the popular doll sets depict cricket match, Dasavatharam, Ashtalakshmi, Srirangam, Meenakshi Kalyanam and Vinayagars.
Dolls procured from West Bengal, Manipur, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are also on sale.
Last year the showroom sold dolls worth ₹12 lakh and for the current year the sales target is ₹15 lakh for the season. R.Gangadevi, showroom manager, and other officials were present. The exhibition will be open at the showroom at Singarathope till October 7, including on Sundays.
