The last coach of Kumbakonam-Tiruchi passenger train derailed while the train was moving into platform number six at Thanjavur railway station on Wednesday morning.

Rock fort express which comes from Chennai and reaches Kumbakonam is operated as Kumbakonam-Tiruchi passenger. The train came to Thanjavur and was accommodated on platform number five. It was moved to platform number six to accommodate the Mysore express on platform five. While the train was moving into platform number six, the last coach derailed. The driver stopped the train safely. There were no passengers in the train. The derailed coach was detached from the train and was later put on the track using cranes that were brought from Tiruchi. As platform number six was only a shunting platform, there was no hindrance to train services.
