Pass percentage improves in Perambalur

There has been a marked improvement in the overall pass percentage in the Plus Two examinations in Perambalur district this year, with 87.66 per cent of the students who took the exams coming out successful.

The pass percentage has gone up by over six per cent in comparison to the performance of the students in the district last year, when the overall pass percentage stood at 81.07 per cent. Girls fared slightly better than boys in the exam.

Out of the 2,968 girls who appeared for the exams in the district, 2,643 have passed, accounting for 89.05 per cent. Of the 3,198 boys who appeared for the exams, 2,762 cleared the exams, accounting for 86.37 per cent.

P.Maruthapandian of Thanthai Hans Roever Higher Secondary School, Perambalur, was the district topper scoring 1,170 marks. He scored a centum in Mathematics, 199 in Biology, 199 in Physics, 198 in Chemistry and 187 each in English and Tamil. T.Deepan of Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Perambalur, stood second in the district with a tally of 1,164 marks and T.Abraham Donald of Thanthai Hans Roever Higher Secondary School, came a close third with 1,163 marks.

In terms of total marks secured, there was also a marked improvement in performance among the students of the district this year. As many as 133 students from the district have secured more than 1,100 marks, while 623 others had scored above 1000 marks. Last year, just 77 students had crossed the 1,100 mark and 468 had managed to score more than 1,000.

Sixteen students have scored centum in the district this year, four in Chemistry, two in Commerce and one each in Physics, Computer Science and Accounts & Auditing. Six self-financing schools, five matric and one aided school have achieved cent per cent results in the district but none of the government schools achieved the distinction.
