Spotted deer that died in Thuraiyur, Tiruchi district on Friday.

The water scarcity in the forest areas in the district, due to the prevailing severe drought, has cost the life of a spotted deer in Thuraiyur near here on Friday.

A male spotted deer, which strayed into the town from the Pachamalai forests in search of water, was killed when it rammed a wall on Friday. The residents of the North Street, who saw the spotted deer at day break, attempted to capture it. In trying to flee the spot, the animal rammed a wall and fell unconscious. The Forest Department personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the animal, which had suffered head injuries, to the local veterinary hospital, where it died later.

The carcass was buried after a post-mortem.
