Panchayat head dismissed

Investigations have revealed that K. Podhuvidai, president of the Ayakkaranpulam I village panchayat, had indulged in irregularities worth Rs. 4.62 lakhs from the panchayat fund.

The District Collector T. Munusamy ordered the dismissal of K. Podhuvidai, president of the Ayakkaranpulam I village panchayat in Vedaranyam panchayat.

On receipt of complaints that the panchayat president had misused the funds of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and also the general funds of the panchayat, the collector ordered the officials to verify all the records of the local body.

The investigations revealed that Mr. Podhuvidai had indulged in irregularities worth Rs. 4.62 lakhs from the panchayat fund.

The Collector initiated action under section 205 (1) of the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act and ordered his dismissal from the post, an official press release issued here on Friday said.
