Fearing outbreak of epidemics, residents of Ganapathi Nagar in Ariyamangalam zone made a fervent plea to the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation to intervene and set right the drainage system in their locality.
Drainage overflowing from the dilapidated structures constructed more than a decade ago spilled on to the pathways and sites and flooded low-lying areas. The residents made a representation to the corporation authorities on Friday.
M. Chinnappa, a resident, lamented that the councillor representing their 28 ward had not acted on their repeated representations in the past.
According to Mariasoosai, a resident, 50 families were most affected by the stench emanating from the drainage throughout the day. Dampness on the road caused by the stagnating drainage has affected their locality, the residents said, in the complaint they submitted jointly with over 35 signatures.
