As many as 5.1 lakh children in the age group of 1 to 19 were to be given de-worming tables in the district on August 10.

A press release from Collector M. Asia Mariam said that as part of the National De-worming Day, the tablets would be distributed to children in all government and government aided schools, anganwadi centres, colleges, and private schools at free of cost.

All school dropouts would be given the tablets through primary health centres and sub-centres, she added.

The tablets were given to all children to address the problem of malnutrition and also to maintain good health.

The tablet with no side effects was distributed by the Health Department in association with the Education and Women and Child Welfare Departments.

Officials said that the drive was to prevent soil-transmitted helminthes that caused anaemia and malnourishment. Students were asked to consume the tablets an hour after lunch and were also told not to panic in case of giddiness.
