A total of 3,391 teachers and government staff have been identified for conducting the forthcoming elections to the Tiruchi Corporation.
The maiden training programme for the officials drafted for the elections was inaugurated by the Corporation Commissioner K.Veera Raghava Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that electronic voting machines will be used for the first time in the Corporation elections. Two EVMs will be used in each polling station – one for electing Mayor and the other for Councillor. A team of five officials will be posted in each station.
The 3,391 polling staff drafted for election duty will be imparted three phased training programme. In the first training programme the poll staff will be given training in using the EVMs on the polling day. He urged the officials to take full advantage of the training programmes for the successful holding of the local body elections. The polling staff should abide by the norms of the State Election Commission to the core.
The polling staff were imparted training in Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Vekkaliamman marriage hall, Devar hall commercial complex today.
Assistant Commissioner of Tiruchi Corporation T.N.Dhanabalan (Goldenrock); P.Baskaran (Abishekapuram), Suppu (Srirangam), K.Rajamma (Ariyamangalam) and Deputy Commissioner (accounts) V.Natarajan and other officials imparted training on the occasion.
Mr.Veer Raghava Rao today released the draft photo electoral rolls of the Tiruchi Corporation at a brief function held at the Corporation premises.
He said that the photo electoral rolls accounted for 5,41,754 voters – men 2,68,734 and women 2,72,985 and eunuchs 35. The local people can go through the electoral rolls and could apply for fresh enrolment, removal of their names and make any correction till the State Election Commission allowed the same.
A total of 690 polling stations will be set up in the four zones of the Corporation. These include 576 polling stations for all voters and 57 each exclusively for men and women. The Corporation has got adequate electronic voting machines, he added.
