The second phase of polio immunisation drive received good response among parents on Sunday.

T.P. Poonatchi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries, inaugurated the drive by administering polio immunisation drops to a child at a special camp here. He was accompanied by R. Manoharan, Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly, and K.S. Palanisamy, Collector.

Drops were administered to children aged below five in the camps established at Primary Health Centres, Government taluk hospitals, K.A.P.V. Government Hospital, maternity clinics, and so on. Enthusiastic parents visited the centres to receive polio immunisation drops.

Mr. Poonatchi said polio prevention drops were given to children at 1,692 centres established in different parts of the district.

As per the statistics, drops would have to be administered to 2,67 lakh children in the district.

Preliminary reports suggested that more than 90 per cent of the targeted children were given polio immunisation drops.

Left out children would be covered on Monday.
