The K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday declared open an exclusive out-patient clinic for screening epilepsy patients. It will function in the second floor of new building.
Dan Marry Lilli, who inaugurated the clinic, said doctors attached to the Department of Neurology had been treating all types of neurological disorders. However, there was a need to offer specialised and focused screening and treatment to epilepsy patients.
The clinic would function on Wednesdays. It would enable doctors study and analyse patients’ history so as to provide better and customised treatment. V. Ravikumar, Head, Department of Neurology, said the hospital used to receive around 300 patients daily with neurological issues. Of them, one third were epilepsy patients. They had been asked to utilise the epilepsy clinic for better treatment. Medicines would be offered for a maximum of four weeks. However, it would continue to screen new epilepsy patients daily.
