The Federation of Consumers and Service Organisations has appealed to Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to operate buses from the central bus stand to Lalgudi, Samayapuram, and Manachanallur via the Chennai bypass road.
A representation presented at the recent consultative meeting of voluntary consumer organisations convened by the TNSTC, the federation urged the Corporation to restore ladies special buses to the BHEL from the city, and operate separate buses for school children during peak hours.
According to M.Sekaran, president of the federation, Corporation officials have assured that one service each to Lalgudi, Samayapuram and Manachanallur from the central bus stand would be operated soon on a trial basis, and if successful, more buses would be operated. The federation urged the Corporation to initiate appropriate steps to check accidents and conduct periodic medical and eye check-ups. The transport corporation should explore the feasibility of operating speed parcel service with assistance of some private partners to increase their revenue. It also demanded that the revised fares and stages be prominently displayed in all buses to prevent confusion.
The organisation demanded that all Thanjavur-bound buses halt at Senthaneerpuram. Similarly, buses operating on the Chennai and Salem route often skipped the old milk farm bus stop, and steps should be taken to ensure that they halted at the bus stop. Temperature control mechanism in air-conditioned buses was not functioning properly, it said.
