In a bizarre incident, an aged woman was burnt to death after a man torched a motorcycle parked near the victim’s house at Sethurathinapuram in Manapparai in the early hours of Wednesday. Manapparai police are on the look-out for Nagarajan, a resident of the same area, who has been named as the accused.

A case of murder has been registered on a complaint from the victim’s son-in-law D. Nagarajan (59). The deceased was identified as V. Saraswathi (80).

Police sources said a wordy quarrel broke out between the accused and the complainant’s son over parking of an ambulance a few days ago. Sources said the accused is said to have poured kerosene over the motorcycle before torching it.

The fire soon spread and the aged woman sleeping on a cot near the vehicle was engulfed in the blaze. The foul smell woke up the victim’s son-in-law who rushed out of the house only to find the aged woman charred to death and the vehicle damaged in the fire.
