An information centre to provide technical inputs for the public on rainwater harvesting (RWH) was opened at the Collector’s Office on Wednesday even as district officials are pushing for creation of the groundwater recharge structures in public and private buildings by the end of this month, ahead of the monsoon.
Awareness rallies were organised by district administration and the city corporation with a large number of students, officials, and elected representatives participating in them.
District Revenue Officer K. Tharbagaraj inaugurated the information centre put up by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board at the Collector’s Office where an official will be present to provide technical inputs on setting up RWH structures.
A digital advertising board, to highlight the importance of rainwater harvesting, has been put up in front of the Collectorate.
Mr. Tharbagaraj flagged off a rally of schoolchildren from the Collector’s Office to the corporation office.
The corporation organised an awareness rally from the Rajagopuram to Amma Mandapam in Srirangam with Mayor A. Jaya flagging it off.
The corporation has directed that all households, public buildings such as colleges, commercial complexes, hospitals, and government offices should have RWH structures in operational condition by June 30.
Those requiring information and support on creating new RWH structures can contact the assistant executive engineer of the TWARD Board by calling 9443594282 or the corporation junior engineers on 9566770800 or 9842412223, a corporation release said.
