Officials instructed to expedite water projects

Transport Minister V.Senthil Balaji has urged officials concerned to expedite the ongoing drinking water projects in Karur, Inam Karur and Thanthoni Municipalities in the district. The projects have been taken up at a combined cost of Rs.68.40 crore.

While the Karur Municipality drinking water supply projects are being implemented at a cost of Rs.24.67 crore, the Inam Karur projects are estimated to cost Rs.18.57 crore .

In the Thanthoni Municipality limits water supply projects worth Rs.25.16 crore are being readied.

The Minister pointed out that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has promised to address the drinking water problems of the Karur region and it was being looked into. The Minister told officials to complete the projects as quickly as possible. Complaints regarding water supply should be addressed immediately, said Mr. Senthil Balaji.

Maintenance works

He pointed out that adequate and regular water supply should be ensured besides attending to maintenance works on a routine basis.

Priority would be accorded to solve drinking water crises and efforts would be taken to extend potable water supply to uncovered areas in the district soon, he said.
