Officials hold meetings with press owners

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Ahead of the Srirangam byelection, the district administration convened a meeting with owners of printing press and publishers at the collectorate here on Monday regarding the model code of conduct to be followed by them.

The meeting was presided over by Collector and District Election Officer K.S.Palanisami.

The name and address of the press owner and those of the publisher should be printed on the front side of the poll-related wall posters, advertisements, and pamphlets under the Representation of People Act, 1951.

The printed pamphlets or wall posters should be submitted to the Collector office within three days of printing.

The pamphlets should not point to any individual person, religion, caste, language, or community. Action as per law would be initiated against press owners if guidelines were violated and the licence of the press would be suspended, he said.

According to an official release here, a separate meeting was organised by the Collector with cable TV operators.
