The numismatics and philately exhibition conducted recently at the Government HSS in Thuvarankurichi in Tiruchi district evoked good response as a large number of students in and around the area came and saw the ancient coins and stamps displayed at the exhibition.

The exhibition was organised by numismatists N.Manikandan and L.Jagadeesan who had displayed all types of ancient coins in copper, silver and gold introduced by several kings in the world and also the coins of present period. A philately exhibition was also organised in which ancient postage stamps of several countries were displayed.

Pappu Elango, Additional Commissioner of Central Excise, Tiruchi, who inaugurated the expo said that it would pave way for students to know about our ancient history, culture and heritage.

N.Ramasamy, yoga teacher, advised the school students to learn the habit of collecting ancient coins and postage stamps. Abdul Halik, councillor of Ponnampatti town panchayat, who addressed the function, said that for the first time numismatics and philately exhibition was conducted in Manapparai taluk.

Clara, Assistant Headmaster of the school, Arumugam, vice-president of Numismatics Society, Tiruchi, Ammayappan, Hassan and Nagarajan, teachers of the school, also spoke.
