“No new projects or lines”

The Thanjavur District Rail Users’ Association has said that the Railway Minister had not announced any new projects in his maiden budget.

The association vice president A. Giri said some of the announcements in the budget such as provision of Wi-Fi connectivity to B class stations, introduction of centralised railway display networking facility, SMS alert for passengers on train arrivals / departure and provision of CCTV network in ladies compartments were a few welcome measures.

Terming the budget “disappointing”, the Train Passengers Association, Papanasam, said privatisation at all levels was dangerous.

The Railway Minister had not announced any new projects or lines in the budget causing great disappointment to the rail travellers, the association secretary T.Saravanan said.
