Life skills, art of public speaking, accelerated learning methodologies, and leadership skills will be the focus areas of the Newspaper In Education (NIE) sessions of The Hindu for students in Tiruchi region this academic year.
The NIE programme for this academic year was launched at Sri Vageesha Vidhyashram in Srirangam here on Tuesday with a call to students to make reading newspapers a habit.
Inaugurating the NIE programme, T. Latha, Circle Head/ Deputy General Manager, Punjab National Bank, Tiruchi, exhorted the young minds to devote 30 minutes a day to read any newspaper.
Although there were multiple mediums available today to know the latest developments taking place in various spheres across the country and around the globe, reading a newspaper was a pleasure which one wouldn’t get anywhere, Ms. Latha said.
“Be in touch with any newspaper. This will give you profound knowledge which you will not get from the text books and help in shaping your imagination,” she told the students. Ms. Latha appreciated “The indu’ for taking up the NIE initiative for the benefit of the student community.
Radhika Vijay, NIE coordinator, said the focus areas of the current year NIE sessions include imparting life and leadership skills for students, public speaking, strategies to help students to read faster, help them to evaluate, organise and summarise information and the methodologies to enhance their memory power and retention capabilities.
