Padalur panchayat resolves to handover 110-acre plot for project
The new textile park proposed to be established in Perambalur district is expected to come up in Padalur village instead of Eraiyur village.
The Padalur village panchayat has already identified a 110-acre site for the project. The panchayat, a couple of days ago, adopted a resolution to handover the land for the project.
The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, had announced the proposal for the project a few months ago and about 340 acres of land at Ezhil Nagar near Eraiyur Cooperative Sugar Mill was identified for the purpose.
A special meeting of entrepreneurs and officials was convened, where Darez Ahamed, Collector, and P. Muthuveeran, the then director of handlooms and textiles, explained the objectives of the project. They explained the scope for employment generation, and power, transport, and water requirements for the project were also discussed. The initiative, however, suffered a set back due to the stiff opposition from Narikoravas, who were residing in the area for long.
Following this, the district administration started looking out for an alternate site for the project. As the textile park would be an export-oriented facility, the authorities were on the look out for a site with close proximity to the Tiruchi-Chennai NH for better road connectivity.
The resolution by Padalur panchayat has come as a shot in the arm for the authorities, who inspected the site and held discussions with A. Velmurugan, president, Padalur panchayat. As the authorities expressed satisfaction about the site, the matter was discussed at the panchayat meeting and a resolution was adopted and the same was forwarded to the district administration.
