A new electricity sub-station will be set up here at a cost of Rs.35 crore to improve the power supply in the district, said Collector T.K.Ponnusamy here on Friday.

Presiding over the district farmers grievances meeting, the Collector said that action would be taken to inform the farmers about the time of power supply for irrigation. He pointed out that the area under paddy cultivation in the district had increased this year than last year as the district had received 149 mm more rainfall this year.

Mr.Ponnusamy said the district administration was keeping adequate stock of fertilizers in the co-operative societies to meet the requirement of the farmers. He pointed out that the works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MNREGS) would not be carried out in places where farming activities were in full swing.

R.Pichai, District Revenue Officer, Raghunathan, Joint Director of Agriculture, Sankar, Lead Bank Manager and other officials attended the meeting.
