Tourism Minister Vellamandi N. Natarajan on Monday inaugurated a new park at Ponnagar extension in K. Abishekapuram zone.

It was opened for public in the presence of Minister for Backward Class and Minority Welfare S. Valarmathi, Mayor A. Jaya, Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran and Deputy Mayor J. Srinivasan.

The park has been constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakh and was said to be the first park established in Ponnagar extension.

Besides a footpath laid for about 200 metres, the park has various play equipment for children including slides, merry-go-round, seesaw and others.

Officials said that there were 500 houses in Ponnagar extension area. The park would be beneficial for children, women and morning and evening walkers.
