Nets damaged, catch taken away by Sri Lankan fishermen

A group of Nagapattinam fishermen have complained that their nets were damaged and their fish catch taken away allegedly by Sri Lankan fishermen a couple of days ago.

Fisheries Department officials said a group of fishermen from Seruthur coastal village in Nagapattinam district ventured into the sea on June 30 morning in 60 boats .

While they were in fishing in the mid-sea off Kodiakarai in the early hours on July 1, a group of Sri Lankan fishermen allegedly surrounded them.

They also damaged their nets and took away the catch and other equipment kept in their boats, said the department officials.

Upon returning, the Seruthur fishermen reported the matter to the officials.
