Indian Institute of Metals, Tiruchi Chapter, celebrated the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as National Metallurgists Day on Wednesday.
Offering floral tributes, P.Soundararajan, Chapter Chairman and General Manager, BHEL Tiruchi, attributed emergence of India as a manufacturing hub to the foundation laid by the ‘architect of modern India’; the great leader envisioned industries as the temples of modern India to lead the industrial revolution out of realisation that manufacturing sector and materials processing were vital for the country’s economic growth.
Mr.Soundararajan said the Tiruchi Chapter has created a unique record by wresting the Best Chapter Award for the 13 year. Its membership crossed the 1,000 mark recently, he said.
R.Easwaran, Vice Chairman, and General Manager, BHEL, called upon members to enhance competitiveness and capabilities of the country by bringing about productive growth in all spheres. G.Uma Shankar, former Chairman; Raman Sankaranarayanan, Head, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; G.Rajendran, Honorary Secretary; and N.Rajasekaran, Honorary Treasurer also addressed the gathering of members.
Cadre of political parties and other organisations garlanded the statute of the first Prime Minister of the county across the district.
The members of the Tiruchi Parliamentary Constituency unit of the Youth Congress garlanded the statue of Nehruji in the city. Allur A.B.Suresh, president of the Parliamentary Constituency Youth Congress, led the party workers. The members of the South district unit of the party and the members of the Tamil Nadu Congress Trade Union-INTUC also garlanded the statue.
At the Jegan Matha Matriculation School, teachers enacted a skit to mark the essential of education and delighted the students by their hilarious performance. Children described the alphabets “Children’s Day” and the students of KG recited rhymes. Benecca Rosario, chief guest, spoke on the life and achievements of Nehruji.
Students participated in various funny games and prizes were distributed to the winners.
