Need to establish more MSMEs in Salem stressed

District Collector V. Sampath has asked the student community to start their own business units and provide job opportunities to others instead of being job seekers.

Inaugurating the ‘MSME Make in India Expo 2015’, organised by MSME Development Institute, Chennai, on the premises of Sona College of Technology here on Friday, he said that the administration will soon be able to provide single window clearance system for entrepreneurs and industrialists for starting new units in the district.

He said that three Central and State government schemes provides grant for starting units and called upon the graduates to utilise the opportunities.

K. Mariappan, vice-president of Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, said that 188 MSMEs have proposed to start their units at an investment of Rs. 200 crore in the district and a memorandum of understanding has been signed during the investors meet in Chennai.

He wanted the 100-acre vacant land near the IT Park for establishing a trade fair complex and a part of the 2,500 acre vacant land inside the Salem Steel Plant premises for establishing MSME units.

Thyagu Valliappa, vice-chairman of Sona Group of Institutions, said that the huge potential in the district can be tapped only if students start smaller companies.

He said that his institution was planning to provide consultancy service for supporting MSMEs.

K. Siva Rama Prasad, Assistant Director, MSME-DI, Chennai explained few schemes that encourage youths to start industries while Chocko Valliappa, vice-chairman of the Sona Group of Institutions, asked students to create opportunities.

Assistant General Manager of Indian Bank Chandrasekar said that banks have provided loan of Rs.14,000 crore to MSMEs in the district.

As many as 150 stalls were put up by the public sector undertakings and nationalized banks.
