Even as probe into the brutal murder of a retired Professor of Madurai Kamaraj University is under way, special police teams are yet to recover the head of the victim.

The headless body of the retired Professor Krishnan (65) was found in a bush near Musiri on Saturday with severe injuries inflicted on the body from chest to stomach.

Although the headless body was shifted to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital in Tiruchi, post-mortem was not done on Monday too as the head was yet to be recovered.

The search for the severed head is under way and special teams suspect the involvement of the victim’s close relative Amalraj in the offence.

Police sources believe that the murder could have been committed with the intention to grab the properties of the retired Professor in Madurai.

Krishnan had been staying with his son Omkumar Venkatesh in Madurai. The abandoned car which the police found a few distance away from the crime scene belonged to the retired Professor in which he had come.

Amalraj is said to be absconding. The Musiri police have registered a case of murder.
