V.R. Karthik Thondaiman, who won on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ticket, assumed charge as the municipal chairman here on Tuesday. G. Balakrishnan, Municipal Commissioner and Returning Officer, administered oath of office to him as well as 42 ward councillors. None of the councillors abstained from the ceremony.
In all 18 AIADMK councillors, 12 DMK councillors, three Congress and nine independents - assumed charge. Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare N. Subramanian, MLA C. Vijayabaskar, and former MLA R. Nedunchezhian were present.

E. Menal, who won the municipal chairman election on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) ticket, assumed charge. P. Ashok Kumar, Municipal Commissioner and Returning Officer, administered the oath of office to her. All the 27 councillors - 14 from DMK, 5 independents, 5 from AIADMK, one from DMDK, and two from Congress - assumed office.
Besides the chairperson, the municipality has returned 11 women councillors.
