Residents of Keezha Kurichi on Monday presented a petition to the District Collector, K.S.Palanisamy, against the proposed acquisition of land for the expansion of Tiruchi Airport.

The Revenue authorities, who visited the village recently, had informed them about the proposed acquisition.

The decision to acquire the land had put our livelihood at stake, the villagers said.

The revival of Mavadikulam, a few years ago, had helped farmers improve farming in the area, and land acquisition may hit the supply channels from Nathamadipatti to the tank thereby affecting the irrigation source, they said.

The villagers also expressed apprehension that the acquisition process would lead to the closure of the Nathamadipatti-Ponmalaipatti road, which is the only road that links the residential areas to the city,” the petition said.
