Headmasters of schools and wardens of students’ hostels should motivate their wards to participate actively in the dengue prevention measures and source reduction of mosquito breeding, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said here on Thursday.

Addressing headmasters from elementary, middle, high and higher secondary schools and wardens of students hostels from the district, Ms.Muralidharan urged them to ensure that the students took the pledge to eradicate breeding sources of the dengue causing mosquito, aedes aegypti, at their households and also ensure that they adhered to it. Students should also be motivated to take up source reduction measures at households in their neighbourhood.

Schools heads and wardens should also ensure that their premises were free of any mosquito breeding source.

Ms.Muralidharan said that awareness and source reduction measures have been initiated across all 14 panchayat unions in the district and beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme were also deployed for carrying out the work. Corporation Commissioner V.P.Thandapani, Deputy Director of Health K.C.Cheran and other officials took part.
