Several Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) members were arrested after they assembled here with a plan to picket a private liquor manufacturing unit at Kunnathur village in Pudukottai district bordering Tiruchi.

Demanding total prohibition in the State, MMK members gathered near Head Post Office from where they planned to take out a rally via Manikandam and Nagamangalam to picket the liquor manufacturing unit. They were led by MMK district secretary M. Faiz Ahmed.

The Police arrested MMK volunteers as permission was not granted for their picketing agitation. Police sources said over 375 MMK functionaries including some women members were held.

They also urged the government not to accord permission to open new liquor shops in Tamil Nadu besides seeking closure of all liquor shops within six months.
