About 140 cadres of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were picked up by the police on Wednesday when they resorted to a road blockade protesting the erection of banners by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam “obscuring” the view of a roadside arch carrying the name of the AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa in the town.

The DMK banners and cut-outs were put up in view of the Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin’s visit to the town on Thursday. Claiming that the banners were obscured the view of the arch at Palakkarai, the AIADMK cadres led by district secretary Ilavazhagan and Varagur MLA M.Chandrakasi resorted to the agitation and were picked up by the police.
