A four-and-half-year-old girl who was reported missing for over a month from the city was traced to a home in Tirupur a few days ago.

The girl who had been staying with her father Shanmugasamudram, a hawker, on a road-side platform near Ibrahim Park was reported missing in early May. The Fort Police here registered a case on a complaint from Shanmugasundaram who had worked in Tirupur. The father and daughter had been staying on roadside platform for a few months after his wife apparently left him and stayed with her near ones in Theni district, the police said.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the police went in search of the minor to different cities. Based on an input, the team went to Erode and showed the photograph to the Childline authorities there who informed them that the girl was handed over to the Tirupur Child Welfare Committee.

The girl, the police said, was found in Erode bus stand and a constable, on spotting the minor, handed over her to the Childline authorities. The girl was subsequently handed over to Tirupur Child Welfare Committee after she referred to a place. As there was none in the area, the girl was later put in a government approved home at Tirupur. The team met the Tirupur Child Welfare Committee which informed them that the girl was accommodated in the home at Tirupur.

The team went to the home and confirmed that it was indeed the missing girl and conveyed the information to the police authorities a few days ago. Arrangements were made to bring back the girl to Tiruchi as per procedure.
