A car driver who was reported missing a couple of days ago was found murdered on Sunday. One of the two accused involved in the case has been arrested by the police.

The body of V. Ramesh (35) was found under a culvert along the Kannanur –Marukalampatti road in the early hours of Sunday based on the information given by the arrested accused R. Suresh (23).

Police sources said Ramesh got a call a couple of days ago from a person who wanted to hire his car.

Upon receipt of the call, Ramesh left for Kalipatti and went missing thereafter. As Ramesh failed to return home, his wife got worried and tried to reach him on his mobile phone. With the phone remaining switched off, Revathy lodged a complaint next day with the Thuraiyur police station.

Acting on the complaint, police passed on the information to neighbouring districts as well as to taxi drivers. The police received information from a taxi driver that a car belonging to Ramesh was proceeding on the Thandalaiputhur – Perur road.

A police team intercepted the car on Saturday night. One of the occupants of the vehicle managed to escape. The other occupant, R. Suresh, was caught.

During enquiry, Suresh had reportedly confessed that he and his associate Yuvaraj had murdered Ramesh by strangulating him and abandoned the body before acquiring the vehicle.

Based on this information, the police found the body of Ramesh under a culvert.
