Minister for Highways and Minor Ports Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan reviewed the ongoing projects in the various wings of the Highways in Karur district here on Saturday.

Road development projects, clearing bottlenecks in the progress of the projects, issues that impede execution of the works, land acquisition problems and a host of other issues came up for discussion in the meeting. The Minister wanted the officials to expedite ongoing projects and bring them to public use as early as possible.

Secretary, Department of Highways and Minor Ports, G. Santhanam, District Revenue Officer C. Munirathinam, Chief Engineer (General) Y.R. Balaji, senior officials of the Highways Department and district level officials from the Revenue Department participated in the deliberations.

MLAs P. Kamaraj (Krishnarayapuram), R. Manikkam (Kulithalai) and V.M. Khaleelur Rahman (Aravakurichi) and others participated in the discussions.

Later the Minister declared open a bridge constructed across River Amaravathy linking Karur and Tirupur districts at Othamandurai at a cost of Rs. 3.72 crore and another cross River Nankanchi at Tadakoil constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.71 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for a new high-level bridge across River Nankanchi on the road between Aravakurichi and Pungambadi that is estimated to cost Rs. 2.10 crore. In the function elected representatives from Karur and Tirupur districts participated.
