Minister for Information Parithi Mr.Ilamvazhuthi inspected the progress of works on the Tamizhisai Moovar Manimandapam, here on Saturday.
The manimandapam for the three Tamil composers spread over 0.44 acres with a built-up area of 358.80 square metres is being built at a cost of Rs.1.51 crore. Observing the water-logging in low-lying areas, Mr.Ilamvazhuthi directed officials to ensure early filling of the site before the onset of the monsoon .
The manimandapam would house three bronze statues of the composers at a cost of Rs.7 lakh each, and the mandapam has been conceived at a cost of Rs.1.30 crore. The project's earlier conception underwent certain changes and the blueprint has incorporated a geometric view of the bronze statues from all four directions, with a central mandapam to host seven kalasams.
The mandapam would be conceived geometrically to enable a view of Thamizhisai Moovar from any direction and the central mandapam would have seven kalasams.
Muthu Thandavar (14th century), Arunachala Kavirayar (18th century) and Marimuthu Pillai (18th century) were also regarded as the pre-trinity composers. Arunachala Kavirayar was born in Thillayadi, Marimuthu Pillai in Thilaividangan and Muthu Thandavar in Sirkazhi.
A manimandapam for Tamizhisai Moovar was announced by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 2000, in recognition of the Tamil-trinity's Tamil compositions to Carnatic music. An initial cost of Rs.30 lakh was announced for the project a decade ago. M.Paneerselvam, MLA, Sirkazhi, N.Balachandran, Tahsildar, Sirkazhi and Chandhini Ponmudi, Chairperson, Sirkazhi Municipality were present.
