As part of an awareness campaign for the forthcoming World Classical Tamil Conference, a mini-marathon was organised at Thirukuvalai on Saturday.

Students of Thirukuvalai Engineering College and Anna University, Tiruchi, participated in it, which was flagged off by A.K.S. Vijayan, MP, and Collector C. Munianathan, in front of the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's childhood house .

Mr. Vijayan said conference to be held from June 23 to 27 would indeed be a celebration of the classical language status bestowed upon the Tamil language.

According to him, “the credit for bestowing classical language status on Tamil belonged to the Chief Minister” and the conference befitted this “achievement.”

The occasion also saw the opening of the Panchayat building and a travellers' rest station.

To mark the Chief Minister's birthday celebrations, herbal saplings were distributed to the students.

A. Annadurai, District Revenue Officer, K. Rukmani, Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Tiruchi, were among those present.
