M.G.R. Medical University honours two Tiruchi doctors

Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University honoured two city-based doctors on Teacher’s Day, as part of its efforts to acknowledge contributions of doctors to health service and medical education on the occasion of its silver jubilee year.

G. Jeyachandran, TB and chest consultant, and chairman, Janet Nursing Home, Puthur, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the State medical varsity for his involvement in government medical service.

Dr. Jeyachandran who retired as Joint Director, Health Services, in charge of State Planning and Development in Chennai, has also held top posts of Deputy Director, Family Welfare and Deputy Director, Tuberculosis for Tiruchi and Pudukottai.

The senor State vice-president of Indian Medical Association has conducted numerous TB and cancer detection camps under the aegis of various voluntary organizations of which he is a member.

Presently serving as president, YMCA College of Physical Education, Nandanam, Chennai, he was former national vice-president of YMCAS of India.

Senior orthopaedic surgeon and recipient of Best Doctor Award, Samson Daniel, is medical superintendent, CSI Mission General Hospital, Woraiyur. Awarded for contribution to health services and medical education, he has around 30 years of medical service to his credit. As faculty of the National Board of Training in Orthopaedics,

His papers have won gold medals at various conferences. Under his guidance, the hospital conducts free medical camps and caters to rural areas through six community health centres in peripherals. He is a founder member of Tiruchi Ortho Club.
