Vice Chancellors of Bharathiyar and Bharathidasan universities on Thursday specified the imperative need to revolutionise curriculum to suit industry needs at a workshop here meant for members of Boards of Studies, under the aegis of World Class Curriculum Development Cell, a project sanctioned by the government of Tamil Nadu.
Titled ‘Reform of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Curriculum for Enhancing Employability’, the workshop organised by Bharathidasan University’s Council for College and Curriculum Development had the participation of about 100 members of the Boards of Studies in humanities and languages.
“Reform in higher education curriculum is essential to link academia with industry. For graduates to deliver goods to industries, the curriculum should be revolutionised, and universities must prepare teachers to design curriculum in sync with global standards,” G. James Pitchai, Vice Chancellor of Bharathiyar University said at the inaugural session.
Bharathidasan University will concur with the State government’s emphasis on quality higher education for developing knowledge as resource for global competitiveness by reshaping curriculum of UG and PG courses.
In the coming months, a series of workshops and an international symposium will be conducted for members of Board of Studies, Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor K. Meena said inaugurating the workshop.
E. Ramganesh, Director, Council for College & Curriculum Development, Bharathidasan University, and M. Selvam, Controller of Examinations, addressed the participants.
Late last year, Bharathidasan University announced the launch of World Class Curriculum Development Cell for updating curricular contents of 10 subjects: biological and biotechnology sciences, nanosciences and technology, mathematical sciences, physical sciences, chemical sciences, computer science and information technology, managerial and business sciences, social sciences, Indian languages and foreign languages.
